Their First Mistake is a 1932 American pre-Code comedy short starring Laurel and Hardy. Directed by George Marshall, the film was produced by Hal Roach and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
Plot[edit]
Mrs. Hardy is annoyed that her husband Oliver seems to spend more time with his friend Stanley than with her. After a furious argument, Mrs. Hardy says that she will leave him if Ollie goes out with Stan again. Stan suggests that Ollie adopts a baby, which he does. Unfortunately, his wife has left their apartment on returning, and a process server delivers a paper informing Ollie that she is suing him for divorce, naming Stan as co-respondent. The boys are now left to look after the infant on their own.

Their First Mistake is a rare film for the duo, as there is no resolution at the end. In the original script, Mrs. Hardy came back to Oliver with adopted baby twins, but so much time and money had been spent on adding Laurel’s improvisations that there was no budget left to film it.[citation needed]

But Not Their Last
Mae Busch, Oliver Hardy’s wife, thinks he spends too much time with Stan Laurel. They decide that what she needs is a baby, so they go out and adopt one. When they return to the apartment, they find Mae is suing Ollie for divorce and Stan for alienation of affection. All well and good but what are the Boys going to do with a baby.
This is sometimes cited as the ‘gayest’ of the Laurel & Hardy shorts, and there;s something in that, but if so, it raises the implication only to make fun of it. Stan and Ollie are almost all the movie; the baby gets one close up to establish it as real, Miss Busch is gone after the first minute, Billy Gilbert plays a process server, and director George Marshall appears briefly as a neighbor.
THe gags are good, but there’s no real ending. Apparently Stan and Ollie improvised so many gags, there wasn’t time.

A simple story given much comedy.
«Their First Mistake» is restricted to just 3 very simple sets and the comedy does the rest. Released in 1932, Ollie’s wife leaves him after she accuses him of deserting her for Stan. An almighty argument occurs at the beginning which leads to the early exit for Mae Busch as the irate wife. Stan convinces Ollie that adapting a baby would solve his marital problems but it is still too late. The boys are left to fend for themselves, baby and all. They truly need to rely upon each other as Ollie is being sued for divorce and thinks all his friends will ostracise him. Moments like this are more like drama and it compliments the comedy perfectly. Stan and Ollie in their efforts to care for the baby are so funny! It is a case of lurching from one disaster to another. The comedy builds very carefully but surely, just like with all Laurel and Hardy talkie films.

Неплохо снято и актеры хорошие, тем более что на Ардан всегда приятно посмотреть. Однако вывод, который (случайно или намеренно?) делает сценарист, мне не по душе: все твои жизненные перипетии и терзания разыграл невидимый режиссер, все за тебя продумал, все за тебя решил, и хорошо.
Очень хороший атмосферный сериал с детективной интригой и классным юмором. Вы до смерти захотите узнать, чем всё закончится:)
Не смогла досмотреть до конца, хотя я обычно — из уважения к авторам — добросовестный читатель и зритель, НО не в этот раз. Жаль потраченного времени. Потуги на психологизм оказались несостоятельны — дальше…
— Всё моё сознание помещается в этот маленький чип?
— Ну туда много ещё чего влезет.

Есть к чему придраться, в частности комичные вставки. Как по мне, они дисгармонируют, выбиваются из общего повествования. Возможно, из-за того что юмор здесь не доминирует. Комичных эпизодов можно было дальше…

Очень наивный и сентиментальный фильм. Чистые отношения и смертельная опасность, благородство и жестокость концентрированы и кристальны. Абсолютные Злодеи, как положено в аниме, становятся в течении фильма абсолютно положительными героями. Классика.
После таких фильмов зарождается вера в российский кинематограф! Ну, можно ведь снять отличное кино! Браво, Иван Соснин! Самое интересное, что ирония в том, что всякое г* финансирует министерство культуры, а вот такое достойное кино – концерн «Дядя Ваня»…
Первый фильм, в котором известный по сценарию к фильму «Набережная Орфевр, 36»/36 Quai des Orfèvres Франк Манкузовыступил в качестве режиссера, — это «Встречное расследование»/Contre-enquête, 2007. Сам дальше
«Киноправа — Алексей Агеев», — увидел я на одной из последних страниц перечитанного «Библиотекаря». Продюсер на ТНТ. И понял — книга «Библиотекарь» долго бродила по разным медиа-студиям и в итоге попала дальше
