Solution
To start the Color Network ScanGear driver and scan, first you must switch the scanner online.
Switching the Scanner Online (Network Scan)
Switching the scanner online enables communication with other devices on the network, and allows the scanner to receive data from the computer.
Follow the procedure below to switch the scanner online.
NOTE
If <Auto Online> is set to <On>, the machine automatically switches online when you select <Remote Scan> on the Select Store Type screen.
1. Press (Main Menu).
NOTE
- If you want to make two or more scan jobs continuously, keep the Use Remote Scan screen (the screen for step 4) showing. The machine will automatically switch offline if you make a scan or use the preview function while showing a screen other than this Use Remote Scan screen.
- If you press
(Main Menu) when the machine is online, the machine goes offline.
Switching the Scanner Offline (Network Scan)
After scanning over the network, switch the machine offline in order to use other functions.
NOTE
- You do not have to switch the scanner offline in order to use other functions while data is being transferred.
- If <Auto Offline> is set to <On>, the machine automatically switches offline.
1. Press (Main Menu).
5. Press (Main Menu) to return to the Main Menu screen.
If you are seeing the following error message reporting that your scanner is offline:
Then try these suggestions first to fix it:
- Make sure sure the scanner power cable is still plugged in.
- Make sure the scanner is turned on.
- Make sure the scanner USB cable is still plugged into the scanner and the same PC USB port.
- Make sure no other scanning applications are using the scanner.
- Use the EzeScan Job Admin form, scanner tab, SELECT SCANNER button to try and reselect the scanner.
- Verify the job settings for scanner name, ADF, duplex, colour and pages to scan are correct.
If it’s still randomly going offline then try these 2 suggestions:
- Disable the scanners power saving feature. The scanner’s power saving feature could be forcing the scanner to go offline after # number of minutes. To fix this issue either turn off the power saving feature or adjust the setting so it uses power saving mode less frequently. This setting can usually be found on the scanner’s UI panel — for more information please refer to the manufacturers documentation.
- Disable the PC’s USB ports power saving option. The Windows power management settings could be allowing the USB hub device to be turned off to save power. To disable this setting open Control Panel > Administrative Settings > Device Manager > right click on the USB Root Hub node under Universal Serial Bus Controllers > select Properties > select the Power Management tab > untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power > Click OK (refer to screenshots below for more info). Repeat this process for each of the USB Root Hub nodes if there are more than one.

Win10 is causing problems with SMB scanning.
you might have some FIRMWARE to correct that problem, but we need more info.
what type network?
wired or wireless?
WSD drivers installed?
did you check the error log for a non-message error code?I take it you are an end user, and not a tech?

Re: Canon IR2270 OFFLINE when online — HELP!!!
Are you using the UFRII driver to test your printing? If you’re trying to print PCL and the option isn’t installed, you’ll get this result.
Also what kind of scanning are you attempting to do? TWAIN, email, folder etc.

Thanks for the reply— I am end user
— Wired network
— Drivers off Canon Website
— No errors in log
— No error messages
— Scanning works on some PCs but not all
drivers used were off Canon Website for IR 2270 PCL6, but I tried PS and the others…. no difference, when you give print command, the copier warms up, then powers back down.Unsure of firmware version, cannot seem to find an update for this
Thanks

OK…
If the copier doesn’t HAVE the PCL or PS option installed, those print drivers will not work. Use the Canon UFR II drivers instead, and that should address your printing issue.
As far as scanning goes, Microsoft is slowly phasing out SMB version 1 for the more secure SMB v2/v3, but since the iR2270 model was released in 2004, the likelihood of a firmware update to even ALLOW SMB v2/v3 is pretty slim. With updated email security these days (SSL/TLS), scan to email is probably out of the question as well.
You might have to install Color Network Scangear and use it as a «Pull» scanner instead. Either that, or it’s time to upgrade the machine.

+1 to your comments guitar9199..
not familiar with CSN.. is that like an OCR or ?MicroQuirk(soft) has really slid down hill since Win7 ( really 95/xp ) but really how many people are going to even try and learn Linux or similar OS.
manufactures build obsolescence into every product. each decade the life span gets shorter.

CNSG (Color Network Scangear) is basically TWAIN software for «Pull-Scanning» documents into an application such as Adobe Acrobat, Time Matters, etc. It requires the page to be pulled with the software directly into the app, not a folder or a scan to email program. If you save it to your computer from the program you pulled it with, THEN you can attach it to email.

Thanks yeah.. when you mentioned «Pull» I thought it had to be a variation of sorts of a TWAIN!
Thanks Brother!

If you were scanning SMB before to some computers that are now not able to on Windows 10 there are a couple of quick things to check. As mentioned before, a copier of that age will most likely need to have SMB 1.0 turned back on. If you open Control Panel and go to Programs and Features, you’ll find «Window’s Features.» Scroll down the page until you see SMB 1.0 which will likely have a black box next to it. Open the drop down and check all 3 options. You’ll have to do a restart for the changes to take effect.
*This was changed as part of the attempt to block the WannaCry virus that was going around a couple of years ago but should now be caught by most of your over the counter anti virus software*
You can also check your advanced sharing settings under «Network and Internet» in the Control Panel. Windows updates on Win10 have a sneaky habit of turning most of the file and printer sharing off by default.
Hope this helps

When multiple devices are connected to the computer, it may so happen that disconnecting one makes the other one disappear. When you start a new application to use the scanner, it cannot find it. In this post, we will share solutions when applications do not find a new scanning device after another device is disconnected.
The problem can occur when you disconnect a Web Services on Devices (WSD) scanner or connect it to a Windows-based computer or when you connect a different scanning device, such as a USB scanner, to the computer. All of these point to a state change. When a machine cannot be found, it means it is still offline. When the OS makes a query for its status, it will receive WIA ERROR OFFLINE error.
WIA_ERROR_OFFLINE, The device is offline, Make sure the device is powered on and connected to the PC, Error code 0x80210005
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) enables graphics software to communicate with imaging hardware such as scanners. The error occurs here when the initialization process fails.
Most of the time, the problem is temporary, and restarting both the scanner and computer may solve it. Here are our suggestions:
- Restart the computer while the scanner is connected
- Uninstall the connected scanner device & Reconnect
- Restart the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service
You may need an administrator account for removing devices from the device manager.
1] Restart the computer while the scanner is connected
It will resolve the problem most of the time as the state will be reset. When the device is stuck in offline mode, the scanner driver may experience a WIA_ERROR_OFFLINE error when it calls the IStiDevice::LockDevice method. When you restart, the state is reset.
2] Uninstall the connected scanner device & Reconnect
- Use WIN + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power menu, and then select Device Manager.
- Locate the scanner, right-click and uninstall
- Restart the computer
- Once you are back into your account, reconnect the scanner.
- Windows will start detecting it again and install the required drivers.
3] Restart the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service
We have already talked about WIA service, and it would be a good idea to restart it too.
- In the Run prompt, type services.msc and press the Enter key.
- Loca WIA service. The description should say, “Provides image acquisition services for scanners and cameras.”
- Double click to open, and then click on the Stop button, and later on the Start button.
- You can also right-click on the service, and choose Restart from the context menu
TIP: This post will help you troubleshoot Scanner problems.
I hope the guide was easy to follow, and one of these solutions resolve the issue—Applications do not find a new scanning device after another device is disconnected.

Hi
I have installed Scangear. I selected the printer iR3045 on scangear.
Then, I closed the scangear and opened microsoft word.
Insert -> picture -> from scanner to camera.
I pressed the button scanner. But it says scanner is offline. Confirm that scanner is online, and then start scanning.
But in canon i don’t see any option named scan.
It is copy, express copy, send, mail box, print jobs.
Please tell me how to scan..
Thanks

You need to get the scan tab on the screen. I believe its in service mode level 2 option, user, then I believe you’re looking for UI-scan. Set to 1 and scan tab should come up.
