Have you ever encountered AppModel Runtime Errors with code 69 on your Windows PC? If your answer is yes, you can find some solutions here. In this post, MiniTool Partition Wizard provides some useful solutions to help you fix this Event ID 69 error.
The AppModel-Runtime Event ID 69 is one of the most common computer failures. You can find this Event ID 69 on the Event Viewer.

In most situations, the Event ID 69 won’t affect your computer. But in some rare situations, it will affect the Microsoft Store and some other default Windows apps. Why does the Event ID 69 error occur? Here are some reasons:
- Damaged Microsoft Store cache.
- System file corruption.
- Corrupted app.
- …
Solution 1. Execute the WSreset.exe Program
If there is something wrong with your Microsoft Store cache, you may also see the Event ID 69 error. So, you need to clear the cache to fix this error.
WSreset.exe is a legitimate troubleshooting tool that lets users diagnose problems with the Windows Store and clear its cache. It is pre-installed in the C:WindowsSystem32 directory on a Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 computer. You can find the executable file on your computer easily.
According to the official description of the WSReset file, «This tool resets the Windows Store without changing account settings or deleting installed apps.»
Therefore, you can run WSreset.exe to reset the store cache without losing your installed apps or user settings. Here’s the way:
- Press Windows and R keys at the same time to open the Run window.
- Type «exe» in the Open: box and click on OK.
- Wait for the procedure to be completed.
- Once done, check if the AppModel-Euntime Event ID 69 error is fixed.
Solution 2. Run the Windows Troubleshooter
Some people report that running the Windows troubleshooter can also fix this error. So, you can have a try. Here’s the guide:
- Press the Windows and I keys simultaneously to open the Settings window.
- Then choose Update & Security.
- Select Troubleshoot from the left panel.
- Click on Additional troubleshooters.
- Next, select Microsoft Store Apps and click on Run the troubleshooter.
- Once done, check if the error is fixed.
Solution 3. Reinstall the App
The «AppModel-Runtime Event ID 69» error is usually caused by errors in an app like Windows Photos or Microsoft Store. Reinstalling the app may solve the problem.
However, some apps may be embedded in Windows and they can’t be uninstalled using Control Panel or Settings, so you need to use Windows PowerShell to uninstall them. Here are the steps:
- Check the Event Viewer error page and find the app that is giving you the error. Here I will use Microsoft Windows Photos as an example.
- Press the Windows and X keys at the same time and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Type the command «get-appxpackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage» to remove the app. (The content between the * * fills in the name of the app you need to delete.)
- Once done, go to download and reinstall the app you have just removed.
Solution 4. Run SFC and DISM Scan
The System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Servicing Management (DISM) are both tools that allow the user to scan and delete corrupt files. So, you can run SFC and DISM to fix this AppModel-Runtime Event ID 69 error.
SFC is an entirely local tool, and it doesn’t need a steady internet. So, you can follow these steps to run SFC first to fix this error:
- Click the Search icon from the taskbar.
- Type «command prompt» in the search box.
- Click Run as administrator from the right of this window.
- Type «sfc/scannow» and press the Enter key.
- Then type «Exit» and press the Enter key to close the Command Prompt window and check if the error is fixed.
If the AppModel-Runtime Event ID 69 error still exists, you need to run the DISM command. Here’s the guide:
- Click the Search icon from the taskbar and type «command prompt» into the search box.
- Click Run as administrator from the right of this window.
- In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type «DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth» and press the Enter key.
- Type «DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth» and press Enter.
- Type «Exit» and press the Enter key to close the Command Prompt window and check if the error is fixed.

Hi all.
Not sure if I’m posting this in the right forum. Microsoft has so many forums (Answers, Docs, Technet, MSDN, and so on) that I may be posting in the wrong place. To the moderator, feel free to move this topic to the right site.
First of all, I have to say that I’m having no problems with my PC at all, the system is running just fine. I just reached this point because I’m aiming to erase all the ‘error’ messages in the Event Viewer log (Windows 10).
So, for anyone who entered in this crusade knows about the AppModel-Runtime error message that keeps showing in the log without a seamless proper reason. There are several topics on the net with people asking for this. The log message goes more or less
like this: «Failed with 0x490 modifying AppModel Runtime status for package Microsoft.<package name> for user DESKTOP-ERQCEBP<my username> (current status = 0x0, desired status = 0x20).»
Well, I found a possible reason why this is happening (although I still don’t know how to solve it), and I though I could share it with the Microsoft users in the forum to discuss this and maybe find a solution.
I realised that this error occurs every time a Windows 10 app is installed, reinstalled or updated from the Windows Store. By analysing the logs in the Event Viewer and comparing it with the days the apps were installed or received updates in the Windows
Store, you can see that the days and the number of occurrences this occurs match.
It seems not all apps update results in a log event. However, every update that Windows registers in the Windows Store generate an AppModel-Runtime error log. You can check this by opening Windows Store, then in the upper-right corner of the screen, clicking
on the three dots, then ‘Downloads and Updates’. Then, in the left of the screen select the menu ‘Downloads’.
In that screen, every item listed there generates a AppModel-Runtime log event.
More, it’s even possible for you to generate yourself the log. All you need to do is go to the Windows 10 ‘Add/Remove Program’ screen, select any Windows 10 app you have already installed (Calculator for instance), then click on it, click on ‘Advanced Options’
just bellow the app name, then click on the ‘Restore’ option. This will reinstall/redefine/restart the app. At the moment you do this, you will generate the log file.
So, I think this is all I have to share about this problem. Does anyone have a solution to make ths log stop showing in the event viewer?

Fix AppModel Runtime Errors 65, 69, and 79
Runtime errors occur at the time of running an app or software. Depending on the cause, there are many types of runtime errors. These errors freeze or crash a program. Sometimes, a runtime error crashes the system. After getting a runtime error, you can view its details in Windows Event Viewer. In this article, we will describe the possible solutions for AppModel Runtime errors – 65, 69, and 79.

- Scroll down the list and uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages.
- Visit microsoft.com and download the latest Visual C++ packages and install them.
- After installing the libraries, restart your system.

You can disable it directly from the Notifications panel. Click on the Notifications icon on the right corner of the taskbar and click the Focus assist icon to disable it. Alternatively, you can also disable it from the Settings app. Go to Settings > System > Focus assist and click the Off radio button.
Fix AppModel Runtime error 69
Sometimes corrupt app packages trigger AppModel Runtime error 69. This generally happens when the installation or update process of an app terminates probably due to a sudden power failure. This error is associated with some specific apps or with Microsoft Store. If you are getting this error on your computer, the following solutions may help you:
- Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter.
- Reset the Windows Store.
- Remove the semi-updated or semi-installed apps and re-install them.
1] Run the Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter
The steps to run Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter are described earlier in this article. Follow these steps and see if it helps.
2] Reset the Windows Store
Sometimes, Event ID 69 AppModel Runtime error occurs due to the corrupt Windows Store component. In this case, resetting the Store can help. To do this, press Windows + R keys on your keyboard to launch the Run dialog box. Type wsreset.exe there and hit Enter. Don’t be afraid of resetting the Windows Store, as it will not delete any of your app data.

3] Remove the semi-updated or semi-installed apps and re-install them
The termination of the installation or update process of an app may corrupt it. In this case, the user may get an AppModel Runtime error 69 on launching that specific app. Follow the procedure listed below to get rid of this error:
- Take ownership of the WindowsApps folder. You will find this folder at C:Program FilesWindowsApps location.
- Now, open the WindowsApps folder and look for the folder name of the app that is causing the problem. For example, the folder for the People app is created under the name Microsoft.People.
- Run PowerShell as administrator, type the following command, and press Enter.
get-appxpackage *Microsoft.People* | remove-appxpackage
In the above command, replace “Microsoft.People” string with the app name or string that is causing the problem. Restart your computer. After restart, visit the Microsoft Store and install the particular app again.
When you are done, give the MicrosoftApps folder’s ownership back to the TrustedInstaller.
Fix AppModel Runtime error 79
The cause of AppModel Runtime error 79 is corrupted system files or missing/broken application components. The following solutions may help you fix this error:
- Run SFC and DISM scan.
- Execute a command in Windows PowerShell.
1] Run SFC and DISM scan
SFC (System File Checker) is a utility that scans and repairs the corrupted files in the system. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator, type sfc /scannow, and press Enter. You should wait till the scanning gets completed. If the SFC scan doesn’t fix the issue, open the Command Prompt again as an administrator, paste the following command, and press Enter:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
2] Execute a command in Windows PowerShellLaunch Windows PowerShell as an administrator, paste the following command, and press Enter:
ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Command «& {$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Photos).InstallLocation + ‘AppxManifest.xml’ ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest}»
In the above command, you have to replace the string “Microsoft.Windows.Photos” with your Broken app. We have written this string here just for an example. Let’s say, if the broken app is People, you have to type “Microsoft.People.” How could you know that? Visit the following path on your computer and search the name of your broken app:
C:UsersusernameAppDataLocalPackages
That’s it. We hope this article helped you solve the problem.
